Our Great God Deserves Great Praise
shared by Bro. Michael Moore, Worship Pastor

"I will proclaim the name of the Lord. Oh, praise the greatness of our God!" - Deuteronomy 32:3

There is a wonderful story about how the famous hymn "How Great Thou Art" came to be used by Billy Graham in his crusades . . . and it has ultimately become one of the most recognized songs in history.

Dr. J. Edwin Orr, a scholar and revival leader of the mid-twentieth century, heard this wonderful song presented by the Naga tribespeople in India. He loved it so much he brought it to America to use in his own revivals. It became so popular that the original author, Mr. Stuart Hine, was contacted about copyrighting the hymn. It was published and recorded soon after.

At a 1954 Billy Graham crusade in England, George Beverly Shea was handed a leaflet containing "How Great Thou Art." Shea loved it so much, he soon incorporated it into Dr. Graham's crusades regularly. In the 1957 New York Crusade, 99 verses of this tremendous song about God's majesty were sung, with a huge choir joining in this familiar refrain:

"Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!"

Can you imagine singing 99 verses of a hymn, even one as amazing as "How Great Thou Art?" Probably not, but here's something to ponder: "How Great Thou Art" sung 999,999,999 times doesn't come close to proclaiming how great our God truly is!

Take time to focus today on just how great a God we serve. As you pray, sing out from your soul praises of God's majesty and power. And remember to pray that those who have not yet experienced God in all His glory will soon be singing His praises right along with you.
